Spotlight on Author Philip Gulley

One of our new fiction selections for September is A Lesson in Hope, by Philip Gulley. Mr. Gulley is a Quaker writer and speaker who has published more than twenty books, including the Hope series (A Lesson in Hope is the second in that series) and the popular Harmony series. If you’re a fan of novels about small towns, or enjoy the writing of authors like Jan Karon and Garrison Keillor, you might want to give his books a try. Some suggestions include not only A Lesson in Hope, but also A Place Called Hope (the first book in the Hope series), Home to Harmony (the first book in the Harmony series), and the nonfiction Front Porch Tales.

A Happy and Healthy September

Perhaps it’s because we all remember our school days, but there’s something about early September that always feels like a time of new beginnings. We’re acknowledging that feeling with our new lobby book display, “Here’s to a happy and healthy September.” You’ll find all sorts of books there, from exercise tips to healthy eating ideas to books on health concerns. Check one or more of these books out, and get your September off to a happy and healthy start!

Cozy Mysteries

Mystery fans may have already discovered the genre known as “cozy mysteries” – books which often feature amateur female detectives, small towns, and lots of fascinating characters. Sound interesting? Some authors who are well known for their cozy mysteries include Susan Wittig Albert, M.C. Beaton, Rita Mae Brown, Laura Childs and Joanne Fluke.
