Keeping the Books Coming...

I hope you are using our reader advisory tools in our catalog and online on our website. When you do, you'll find many titles that sound great. Maybe too many. You don't want to request them all now, but you don't want to forget to order them in the future.
Or you want to make sure you have something great to read on vacation, but don't want it to come in yet.  To control the timing of books coming in for you, stagger the books you request from our catalog....

When placing your hold, put a future activation date for the hold. For instance, I saw a  favorable review about  Wicked Autumn by G. M. Malliet. Sounds like the perfect read for late September, early October. When I requested it through our catalog, I put an activation date of September 15.

You can stagger your requests so you always have something to read, but don't feel you're overwhelmed.

Book Discussion Club Announces July Selection

"In nineteenth-century China, in a remote Hunan county, a girl named Lily, at the tender age of seven, is paired with a laotong, "old same," in an emotional match that will last a lifetime. The laotong, Snow Flower, introduces herself by sending Lily a silk fan on which she's painted a poem in nu shu, a unique language that Chinese women created in order to communicate in secret, away from the influence of men. As the years pass, Lily and Snow Flower send messages on fans, compose stories on handkerchiefs, reaching out of isolation to share their hopes, dreams, and accomplishments. Together, they endure the agony of foot-binding, and reflect upon their arranged marriages, shared loneliness, and the joys and tragedies of motherhood. The two find solace, developing a bond that keeps their spirits alive. But when a misunderstanding arises, their deep friendship suddenly threatens to tear apart."

Join the Riverdale Book Discussion Group on July 23 at 6:30 p.m. for a great discussion and refreshments.
