As avid readers, we know the books and authors we like,
and we seek them out. But it can be a short step from reading what we like to
finding ourselves in a bit of a reading rut - so why not try a
reader’s “stretch?” This can be as simple as trying a fiction book if you’re a
nonfiction fan and vice versa. Here are some great new fiction suggestions for
nonfiction readers: Curious Minds, by
Janet Evanovich (a crime novel); Family
Tree, by Susan Wiggs (a romance); and Insidious,
by Catherine Coulter (a thriller). And for fiction readers, these nonfiction
selections are sure to please: The Gene:
an Intimate History, by Siddhartha Mukherjee (a biography of the gene - a
combination of science and social history); Hillbilly
Elegy, by J.D. Vance (a look at the struggles of America’s white working
class); and When Breath Becomes Air,
by Paul Kalanithi (a physician’s moving account of how he dealt with his Stage
IV cancer diagnosis at the age of 36).
