Audiobooks are wonderful all year round, but they’re especially terrific in the summer when many of us are driving to our favorite vacation spots. Here are some of our newest audiobooks to consider taking along on your next road trip:  First Comes Love, by Emily Giffin; Foreign Agent, by Brad Thor; Liberty's Last Stand, by Stephen Coonts; Lily and the Octopus, by Steven Rowley; The Pursuit, by Janet Evanovich; and  Red Platoon: a True Story of American Valor, by Clinton Romesha.

Great Beach Reads

When the weather gets hot, many of us think about heading for the beach or somewhere cool and comfortable – and taking a favorite book or two with us. Our lobby book display this month features some suggestions for “great beach reads” that are perfect for relaxed and casual reading. Here are some examples: Beach Town, by Mary Kay Andrews; Blueprints, by Barbara Delinsky; Cometh the Hour, by Jeffrey Archer; Driving with the Top Down, by Elizabeth M. Harbison; The Girl from Summer Hill, by Jude Deveraux; and Miller’s Valley, by Anna Quindlen.

Adult Summer Reading Program

Sign-ups for our adult summer reading program began this Monday, but it’s not too late to join! Open to MAIN cardholders over the age of 18 with a current library card in good standing, our program offers a gift for the first forty people to register. We also offer weekly drawings for additional prizes, as well as a final drawing for a grand prize at the end of the program. All you need to do is sign up in person at the library. Then fill out an entry form for every book that you read (audiobooks, ebooks and movies count as well) and drop it in the container in our gallery. If you write a brief review on the back of your entry form, that counts as a bonus entry. We’re hoping that you’ll join us!

What Should I Read Next?

The question of what to read next can be a real concern for dedicated readers, who often find that their favorite authors just don’t write books quickly enough for them! With this in mind, we’ve created a lobby book display that addresses this issue, featuring favorite authors such as David Baldacci, Debbie Macomber, James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Stuart Woods and others. Behind each featured book is a list of “author read-alikes” (authors who will also appeal to readers who enjoy the works of the featured author). Please help yourself to whatever lists appeal to you – they’re there to help you answer the question “What should I read next?” Happy reading!
