Donations are now being accepted for the Friends of the Riverdale Public Library Book Sale.
Hardcover or paperback books in good condition, music on CD's, and DVD movies are welcome.

Mark your calendar for the Book Sale! Friday, March 23, 4 - 8 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 3 p.m.

Holiday Reading

Stop by the library this holiday season. View the gingerbread houses crafted in our teen program. Pick up a cookbook for a new cookie recipe or a dish to wow your guests this season.

What about a good read for the season? So many writers publish seasonal material - James Patterson's The Christmas Wedding is available, along with the merry holiday novels by Debbie Macomer or Melody Carlson. Ann Perry writes a mystery each year for the holiday season - this year's title is A Christmas Homecoming.

My favorite Christmas read last year was The Christmas Chronicles: The Legend of Santa Claus by Tim Slover. It's a magical story of how Santa Claus came to be, and sure to add to your holiday spirit.

The library has holiday books, movies, and displays. Hope to see you this holiday season!

Your Reading History

Many patrons keep paper lists of what books they've read, or they use online sites, but now you can create a reading history of books you checkout from our library. It's call Reading History.

Log in to the catalog with your library card barcode number, and your PIN, and indicate in your account that you want to create a reading history. You'll be saving any titles you checked out, and you can refer to it by clicking on the Reading History tab when you are logged in.

It's a great way to keep track of authors you like, and want to read in the future, or a book you started that you didn't have time to read, but want to get back to.

Let us know if you would like a library staff member to demonstrate how the feature works.

Holds in October

Riverdale Public Library is a member of the Morris Automated Information Network (MAIN). MAIN is changing to a different circulation system, with added features for our patrons.

To ensure the migration goes smoothly for our patrons, placing a hold on books and materials will be suspended through the month of October.

The ability to place a hold on items will be restored when we are live in our new circulation system, a projected date of Monday, October 31.

Kindle eBooks Available for Borrowing

eBooks for Kindle devices are now available with your library card. In our catalog, click on "Download audiobooks/eBooks" and select your title for the Kindle. You'll need your library card, and will be asked to sign into your Amazon account to complete the download.

Your library card entitles you not only to the Riverdale Public Library collection, but to all the Morris County Information Network members (36 libraries). Author Visits

Mary Ryzuk, the talented singer from The Traveling Stage Company, is also a published author. She has written Thou Shalt Not Kill (true story of John List) and The Gainsville Ripper.
Ryzuk will be discussing her recent novel, The Fires Within: The Summer of '88, a murder mystery set against the background of the Yellowstone fires of 1988.

Author Kevin Woyce returns with a slideshow presentation of his new book New Jersey State Parks:History & Facts.

Children and Teen Books Borrowing Changes

New teen or children's books are now available for a 14 day borrowing period, rather than 28 days. You'll be more likely to find the new and popular books available on the shelf with these shortened borrowing periods.

Finished a great series, or read everything by an author, and don't know what to select next? Our library catalog includes links to bestseller lists, award lists, and recommended reading. When you are in the catalog, either select the links under Library Info, or links in the Recommended Reading Bestsellers.
And of course, ask the Riverdale Public Library staff for some great reading suggestions.

Check the Riverdale Public Library catalog for ebooks to download onto your reader, a Smartphone, or your computer. Click on the MAIN catalog link at www.riverdalelibrary.org, and click on download audiobooks/ebooks link on the navigation bar.You'll be in the NJ Digital Library website and can browse the selection.

New Hours

Starting Tuesday, July 5th, the Riverdale Public Library will be closing on Tuesdays at 5 p.m., and will be open later on Wednesdays, until 8 p.m. This is in response to patron requests made on our survey, earlier this year. The new hours of the library will be:

I used the search term "tv" and limited the publication to "Consumer Reports". I now have five articles published in Consumer Reports in the last two years to guide my shopping.
